As we all must have heard, the bay area is filled with a huge number of species like mammals, amphibians, fishes, birds, reptiles, and beautiful looking insects. We can see a large diversity of natural locations where a nature lover can see and enjoy a lot of habitats and beautiful living conditions for the flora and the fauna. Moreover it is the highlight of the San Francisco tour.
One can discover and feel a real good variety of natural surprises over there. The mammals, birds and another species found in that area are so unique because of that climatic condition and surroundings. Especially the Bay area wildlife watching is a great place to learn while we enjoy in Mother Nature's lap.
As we all know, Whales are the largest mammals on earth and these gigantic creatures can be seen in San Francisco Bay Area. The season in which Whale watching is famous is the Gray Whale season from December to April and the summer or fall season for the other whales. Specially designed trip boats are available in these areas for Whale watching. On the other hand peoples who wish to see them from the shore can also watch it if you come to pass to be at the right place at the time when these gigantic creatures come up to the surface of the water.
Areas around the Farallon Islands and the Monterey Bay are the best known spots for whale watching by means of boats. If you are having problem traveling on a boat or thinking of becoming seasick then the best spots where you can see whales from the shore will be Big Sur coast, Point Reyes, and Pigeon Point. More often than not one can enjoy watching them spray from their blowholes from afar distance and if you are lucky enough you can see some breaching whales in a less deeper areas every now and then. One can enjoy watching the Gray Whales between mid of the December and April. This is actually the season of their annual migration, on the West coast. These mammals migrate towards South in December or January. Then they move towards North in March or April and in this season on can see a lot of mother whales with their new born calf.
