It is officially holiday season with tens of thousands of people rushing overseas to cool off from the heat and enjoy an exotic summer.
There is a trend in traveling, too, though everyone has his or her own idea about a good vacation. If you want to know what other people in the world are up to in terms of traveling, one good way is to see where they stay, because hotels often tell the needs and focuses of the travelers.
The Korea Times requested www.hotels.com, one of the largest hotel reservation sites in the world, to sort out the trends of traveling through hotel searching and booking. They may not all be the flashiest or the state-of-the-art hotels but they can surely be ``reasonable'' hotels and tell you where people are visiting this summer to cool off from the heat.
The Web site, which has contracts with more than 100,000 hotels worldwide, has also selected five of the ``world's quirkiest hotels,'' for colorful and exciting days out.

Quirkiest Hotels
Icehotel in Jukkasjarvi in Sweden: The hotel opened in 1997, but rapidly became one of the most visited and most asked for hotels in the world. The hotel says, ``The summer in Lapland is intense. The sun sparks to life and burns for 100 days and nights without setting, melting snow and ice and transforming the countryside into a vibrant green. The nights are as bright as the days,'' inducing people to enjoy the icy landscape from ice-built rooms.
Absolute IceBar, Ice Church, Art Suite 305 Dynamic Shelter and so many other fascinating spots are all there waiting for people to experience the most exquisite and rare view of summer in a snowy land. Cold rooms made of ice are available from December to April, while normal, ``warm'' rooms are available year round.
Ariau Towers Hotel in the Amazon, Brazil was based on the idea of Jacques Cousteau, who visited the Amazon with his team. The construction follows the native models of building: on stilts, according to the hotel.
Ariau Amazon Towers Hotel is located 35 miles from Manuas, Brazil at the confluence of the Rio Negro and Ariau Creek. On its own Web site, the hotel explains that it was built entirely on the same level as the Rainforest Canopy. Ariau's rooms and facilities are linked together by 4 miles of sturdy wooden walkways. This architectural wonder affords visitors a unique communion with the regions abundant flora and fauna while leaving the fragile eco-system completely undisturbed, it said.
There are four more― Aydinli Cave House in Goreme, Turkey; New York New York Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas; Protea Hotel Fire and Ice in Cape Town, South Africa; and Crowne Plaza Indianapolis in the U.S. They were all chosen for their unique design and great services, the Web site said.
