Hoping to placate public rancor just over the high cost of riding San Francisco's cable cars, the city officials are now looking for ways to ease the financial burden.
One idea is to permit children 12 and younger to ride the cable cars for free on Sundays and holidays, if they're escorted by someone paying a full fare. Another is to allow the limited use of transfers so that the passengers don't have to pay the $5 fare every time they transfer from one cable car to another.
