San Francisco, the city by the bay, overflows with the tourist attractions. The Golden Gate Bridge, cable cars, Chinatown, Fisherman’s Wharf and many other places of interest draw millions of visitors into the city every year. Many of these tourists are also very interested in the history of San Francisco that as many know, begins with the Mission St. Francis de Asis established here during 1776.
History tells us that on June 27, 1776, a set of Spaniards led by the Lieutenant Jose Joaquin Moraga and Father Francisco Palou arrived in this area. They celebrated their first Mass on June 29, 1776. From this point onwards, the Mission of St. Francis had a home in this Bay area. As the area grew, the town took on the name of St. Francis (San Francisco) and this mission became known as Mission Dolores.
