Neighborhood people say that same view could be an inspiration to others, and they are fighting city officials over plans to sell two overrun lots, totaling only about a quarter-acre, that sit next to Adams' childhood home and the house he built in his mother's dahlia garden.
The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission auctioned off one of the lots on Friday, receiving a $1.5 million bid from a couple who plan to build a house, and it is soliciting bids for the second.
