The Giants gave the great AT & T Park tour Tuesday to three of their top prospects in the draft 2011 – RHP Kyle Crick, Andrew Susac receiver and first baseman Ricky Oropesa.
Crick, a 18-year-old from Sherman, Texas, was to collect compensation Giants (No. 49 overall) after losing to Juan Uribe as a Type A free agent Crick had never been to San Francisco Giants before, not to mention the park for the Giants.
“It looks like a pretty good pitcher park for me,” said Crick. “I was not waiting for any team, but when she was selected by this organization, I was astounded.’s Very good, especially for a young pitcher.”
Crick, a power pitcher with a fastball in the mid-90 mph and a hard slider, was the only one of three who has experience in the minor leagues this summer, pitching seven innings for the entry of the Giants Arizona Rookie League . He was 1-0 with a 6.43 ERA, struck out eight, but walking eight.
“The pitching coaches has not changed my mechanics school, things I’ve done all my life,” he said. “I’m doing what I what to do.”
Susac (second round, No. 86 overall, Oregon State), who signed a $ 1.1 million 20 minutes before the date of signature, grew up in Minneapolis and has been a lifelong Giants fan and 49ers. Although only 21, still remembers the baseball at Candlestick Park, where his parents took him from the time he was a baby.
Asked about being recruited by an organization where the likes of Buster Posey long term receiver, Susac said: “The capture of one of those important positions is always necessary. In fact, I have tried to emulate Buster Posey. It is one of my favorite players. “
The left-hander hit Oropesa (third round, No. 116 overall) to the USC 40 homers in the last three years and was seduced by the right-field wall at AT & T.
“It was calling my name,” he said. “Paul (Sandoval) gave me a stick. I was not sure if he could come and knock at the moment, but I really wanted.”
The three players will report to the instructional league in Arizona this week.
Pitcher Jonathan Sanchez has finally made some significant progress with his sprained left ankle. He threw himself on a flat surface on Tuesday, and manager Bruce Bochy said Sanchez rebounds but that, he could be throwing off a mound in a week.
Reliever Jeremy Affeldt been nominated for the Giants to the Roberto Clemente Award and be honored at a ceremony at the ground on Wednesday. The winner will be announced during the World Series.
