Day 2 San Francisco Tour
During San Francisco's Barbary Coast days, operagoers didn't check their revolvers at the doors and expressed their appreciation by whistling and yelling. All of the old opera houses have been gone since 1906, but support for San Francisco opera continued.
The War Memorial Opera House was built in 1932 with an opening performance of "Tosca". The building, modeled after its European counterparts has a vaulted coffered ceiling, marble foyer, two balconies, and a huge silver art-deco chandelier.
The San Francisco Opera performs here from September through December, with some shows in the Summer. The opera house hosts the San Francisco Ballet from February through May, with December "Nutcracker" performances.
During your San Francisco tours aboard our Day 2 tour, you will see this popular building from the City Hall/Civic Center stop.
