Watch the Surf Crash at Fort Point

Beneath the Golden Gate Bridge, off Lincoln Blvd, Fort Point is a must. It's one thing to drive over the Golden Gate Bridge but it's a dramatically different vantage point from below.

While the wind blows into your face, the great waves slam into the Sea Wall at Fort Point, sending fans of water into the air. Above the red brick mass of the old fort, the slender span of the bridge may disappear before your eyes.

Out on the bay, Alactraz can been in the distance as well as Sausalito and Angel Island. Fort Point draws rather light crowds as visitors tend to not know about this serene location.

Part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, the fort is a national historic site. Rangers (if seen) dressed in period costume demonstrate the military life a year ago.

Be sure to take the time to go up 3 flights of stairs to the very top of Fort Point. Here you will be on the roof of the fort and can take unobstructed views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and the City of San Francisco.
